The top five counties for vessel registration in Florida include: Miami-Dade (74,622), Pinellas (53,867), Lee (50,304), Broward (47,741) and Hillsborough (41,495).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlorida, with its great year-round weather and plenty of access to fresh and salt water, is the \u2018Boating Capital of the World\u2019,\u201d read a <a href=\"https:\/\/myfwc.com\/news\/all-news\/million-boats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">statement from the FWC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/BoatSafety.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/BoatSafety-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10624 lazyload\" width=\"249\" height=\"137\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 249px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 249\/137;\" \/><\/a><figcaption>https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/vef\/BoatingSafety_Infographics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>As Florida passes the 1 million vessel benchmark, the commission took the time to give a reminder of the importance of boating safety.<\/p>\n<p>Maj. Rob Beaton, leader of the commission\u2019s Boating and Waterways Section says, \u201cA safe day while boating is a great day. Nothing can ruin a fun and memorable experience on the water faster than a boating accident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you are in a powered vessel or non-motorized vessel, reviewing safety guidelines is important with so many boaters on the water,\u201d says Buck, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GreatFlorida Insurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some basics are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Boaters are always encouraged to wear a life jacket on board<\/li>\n<li>Maintain 360-degree awareness<\/li>\n<li>Know the dangers and penalties for operating a vessel while impaired<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mariners.coastguard.blog\/2021\/06\/30\/u-s-coast-guard-releases-2020-boating-safety-statistics-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">U.S. Coast Guard<\/a> reports alcohol is the leading known contributing factor in fatal accidents.<\/p>\n<p>While Florida does not require boat owners to obtain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-boat-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boat insurance<\/a>, several homeowners policies and marinas may require <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-boat-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boat insurance<\/a>.
