In 2020, there were 30 named storms. The season was so active it went through the list of storm names and used the Greek alphabet a record breaking 9 times to name storms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/hurricane\/accuweathers-2022-atlantic-hurricane-season-forecast\/1164507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">AccuWeather\u2019s<\/a> team of tropical weather forecasters is once again predicting an above-normal season in terms of tropical activity in the Atlantic, as well as a higher-than-normal chance that a major hurricane could make landfall in the mainland United States. 16-20 named storms and 6 to 8 hurricanes of those, about 3 to 5 are forecast to reach major hurricane status, which occurs when a storm reaches category 3 strength with winds exceeding 111 mph or higher.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/atlantic-tropical-names-2022-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/atlantic-tropical-names-2022-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10961 lazyload\" width=\"293\" height=\"152\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 293px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 293\/152;\" \/><\/a><figcaption>https:\/\/weather.com\/storms\/hurricane\/news\/2022-02-21-hurricane-season-names-2021-atlantic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">National Hurricane Center<\/a> is already tracking a tropical wave activity. Overall activity is expected to be between 29% and 36% more active than any normal season.<\/p>\n<p>Another well-known hurricane forecasting center, <a href=\"https:\/\/tropical.colostate.edu\/forecasting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Colorado State University<\/a> predicts 19 storms for the season, 9 becoming hurricanes, 4 could become major hurricanes reaching category 3, 4 or 5.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/hurricane\/accuweathers-2022-atlantic-hurricane-season-forecast\/1164507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">AccuWeather\u2019s<\/a> team reports, \u201cthe presence of La Ni\u00f1a, above-normal sea-surface temperatures in key tropical development regions will result in a higher-than-normal chance of preseason development for the eighth year in a row.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Based on those past landfall locations, the areas with the greatest potential for direct impacts along the mainland U.S. are the southeast Texas coast eastward through Florida, particularly the panhandle area, and the coast of the Carolinas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important for homeowners to make sure they are not underinsured,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dustyns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" =_blank>Dustyn Shroff<\/a>, Vice President of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-homeowners-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GreatFlorida Insurance<\/a>, Florida\u2019s top independent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-homeowners-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">homeowners insurance<\/a> agency.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Ask your agent if your policy covers the current value of your home.
