MYTH:<\/strong> Get an oil change every 3,000 miles.<\/p>\n

TRUTH:<\/strong> Most cars can go 5,000 \u2013 7,500 miles before an oil change under normal driving conditions. See your owner\u2019s manual recommendations.<\/p>\n

MYTH<\/strong>: Flush the transmission fluid.<\/p>\n

TRUTH<\/strong>: Most cars don\u2019t require this for 25,000 \u2013 50,000 miles. Many new vehicles use fluid that never needs replaced or doesn\u2019t need replaced until 100,000 miles according to AAA<\/a>.<\/p>\n

MYTH:<\/strong> Mileage boosting additives and devices.<\/p>\n

TRUTH:<\/strong> They do not work. The EPA<\/a> reports after extensive testing, \u201cDon\u2019t be fooled by these erroneous claims.\u201d<\/p>\n

MYTH: <\/strong>A\/C system recharge<\/p>\n

TRUTH:<\/strong> If your air conditioning is blowing cool air, it is fine. Most modern A\/C systems do not require a recharge unless there is a problem with the system.<\/p>\n

MYTH:<\/strong> Purchase premium fuel.<\/p>\n

TRUTH:<\/strong> Does your car say premium fuel is \u201crequired\u201d or \u201crecommended?\u201d Edmunds<\/a> reports, to reduce emissions, \u201cmost major brands of gasoline have plenty of additives in all grades to both protect engines and cut pollution.\u201d If it is recommended and the driver gets regular, the car\u2019s performance could suffer slightly, but no damage would be done to the engine.<\/p>\n
