Trim back weak branches and lower antennas and retractable awnings.<\/p>\n<p>Prepare for a potential evacuation, get a plan.<\/p>\n<p>Charge your cellphone<\/p>\n<p>Fill your car\u2019s gasoline tank <\/p>\n<p>Have the name and phone number of your insurer and insurance<br \/>\nagent handy in your purse, wallet or phone.<\/p>\n<p>A hurricane warning is issued when hurricane conditions are<br \/>\nexpected in 24 hours or less, meaning a storm is imminent. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Once a<br \/>\nhurricane warning is issued<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remain informed of the storm\u2019s progress via the TV or radio.<\/p>\n<p>Install hurricane shutters, board up or securely shutter large<br \/>\nwindows and draw drapes across windows and doors.<\/p>\n<p>Get off the boat- never remain on a boat during a hurricane.<br \/>\nCheck mooring lines of boats in water.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If an evacuation<br \/>\nbecomes necessary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bring along supplies<\/p>\n<p>Keep important papers with you<\/p>\n<p>Take warm, protective clothing for the family in case you get stuck.<\/p>\n<p>Lock all your windows and doors when leaving, to protect your home from<br \/>\nlooters.<\/p>\n<p>Keep all receipts for anything that might be considered an additional<br \/>\nliving expense in the event your home is destroyed or damaged.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you stay home during a hurricane<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stay indoors. Don\u2019t go out even<br \/>\nduring the brief calm.<\/p>\n<p>Avoid windows and glass doors and<br \/>\nmove furniture away from exposed doors and windows.<\/p>\n<p>If your home has an \u201cinside\u201d<br \/>\nroom, stay there during the height of the hurricane. <\/p>\n<p><strong>After a hurricane<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Notify your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-insurance-agent-search\">insurance agent<\/a> as<br \/>\nsoon as possible of any losses. <\/p>\n<p>Avoid signing any repair<br \/>\ncontracts before checking with your insurance agent first. <\/p>\n<p>Get written estimates for any<br \/>\nproposed repairs and use only a qualified, licensed contractor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Car<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Vehicles damaged or destroyed by wind or flooding<br \/>\nare covered under the optional comprehensive portion of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-auto-insurance\">auto insurance<\/a><br \/>\npolicy,\u201d says Ellsworth<br \/>\nBuck, Vice President of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/\">GreatFlorida<br \/>\nInsurance<\/a>, Florida\u2019s top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-homeowners-insurance\">homeowners insurance<\/a><br \/>\nagency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Renters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-renters-insurance\">Renters insurance<\/a><br \/>\ncovers a renter\u2019s possessions, the landlord is responsible for insuring the<br \/>\nstructure.<\/p>\n<p>Before a storm<br \/>\nis in the area, take inventory of your home, car, boat and other belongings.<br \/>\nVideos and pictures are great.
