By clinking on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthday.org\/earth-day-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">link<\/a>, you can find several ways to commemorate this day and join numerous festivities and find activities online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the midst of a pandemic, it is healthy to turn our attention to another important issue, the environment,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dustyns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" =_blank>Dustyn Shroff<\/a>, Vice President of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GreatFlorida Insurance<\/a>, Florida\u2019s largest independent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-homeowners-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">home insurance<\/a> agency.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2017\/04\/20\/for-earth-day-heres-how-americans-view-environmental-issues\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pew Research Center<\/a> data found most Americans report, concern for the environment. So how can this concern be channeled into action-recycling. Many of the listed items contaminate the recycling process or cause damage to the recycling machinery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please keep these items out of the recycle bin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pizza box \u2013 oil and food cause contamination<\/li>\n<li>Plastic bags-damage the machinery<\/li>\n<li>Coat hangers- wire, plastic and wood cannot be recycled<\/li>\n<li>Power cords-the metal cords are surrounded by a nonrecyclable layer of plastic or rubber<\/li>\n<li>Batteries- rechargeable and lithium-ion<\/li>\n<li>Ceramic dishes<\/li>\n<li>Bubble wrap-damage the machinery<\/li>\n<li>Brightly dyed paper-heat treat with contaminates<\/li>\n<li>Plastic bottle caps-oddly, they are made from nonrecyclable plastic<\/li>\n<li>Plastic straws- too small and thin and can damage the machinery<\/li>\n<li>Styrofoam containers<\/li>\n<li>Plastic utensils<\/li>\n<li>Tires<\/li>\n<li>Snack bags-they are made of mixed materials<\/li>\n<li>Garden hoses<\/li>\n<li>Toys<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cKnowing what can and cannot be recycled helps the process go smoothly, preventing recyclables ending up in the landfill,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dustyns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" =_blank>Dustyn Shroff<\/a>, Vice President of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GreatFlorida Insurance<\/a>, Florida\u2019s top independent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/florida-homeowners-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">home insurance<\/a> agency.<\/p>\n<p>Just because an item has a recycle symbol on it, doesn\u2019t always mean it can be placed in a traditional recycle bin. Look for numbers 1, 2 and 5. Also, all containers need rinsed and free of food before being recycled.
