According to \u00a0the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates report, in 2013, 24.3 percent of residents were without <a title=\"health insurance Florida\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/healthcare-insurance\" target=\"_blank\">health insurance<\/a>. The rate has declined since 2010, when 25.3 percent were reported as having no health insurance. Central and South Florida were reported as having the greatest amount of uninsured residents.<\/p>\n<p>Finances are often cited as the reason why most people do not have <a title=\"Florida health insurance\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/healthcare-insurance\" target=\"_blank\">health insurance<\/a>. \u201cCostly medical bills contribute to the financial demise of many individuals and families,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dustyns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" =_blank>Dustyn Shroff<\/a>, Vice president of <a title=\"Florida Insurance Agency\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greatflorida.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">GreatFlorida Insurance. <\/a>\u201cWhen someone without health insurance faces a serious illness requiring medical attention bills begin to pile up quick, for every test, procedure and ounce of medicine you receive, there is a dollar amount attached.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Financial research and advisory company, <a title=\"NerdWallet\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nerdwallet.com\/blog\/health\/2014\/10\/08\/medical-bills-debt-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NerdWallet<\/a> conducted a health study and found medical debt is the largest cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. The study also discovered, medical debt is the largest category of consumer debt in collections.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"NY Times\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/12\/03\/health\/as-hospital-costs-soar-single-stitch-tops-500.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>, reported on the soaring prices for medical care at hospitals.
