Ditch the New Year’s Resolutions

“New Year’s resolutions are full of good intentions for change, but I am not convinced they are effective,” says Dustyn Shroff, Vice President of GreatFlorida Insurance, Florida’s top independent auto insurance agency.

Forbes reports the statistics on how many people actually follow through and accomplish their New Year’s resolutions are rather grim. Studies show that less than 25% of people actually stay committed to their resolutions after just 30 days and only 8% accomplish them.

With so many failed New Year’s resolutions comes frustration, guilt and shame. What if instead of setting unsuccessful or unrealistic resolutions, you set goals to bring more joy into your life?

“The last two years have brought plenty of stress, 2022 is an opportunity to experience more happiness,” says Dustyn Shroff, Vice President of GreatFlorida Insurance, Florida’s largest independent auto insurance agency.

Psychology Today has the following suggestions to bring comfort and peace this new year. Schedule consistent time for a massage, mani-pedi or coffee date with a friend. Take regular breaks at home or work. Those breaks could include a walk outside, nap, meditation or prayer. Try devoting 30 minutes a day or week to a specific enjoyable activity. Think of three things you are grateful for before falling asleep. Act with kindness towards at least one person per day.

Below are some ideas from Country Living Magazine for the New Year that can make you laugh and smile more in 2022.

  • Flamingo a friend’s yard.
  • Order every drink from the Starbucks menu this year.
  • Enjoy Taco Tuesday.
  • Host Sunday Supper once a month for friends
  • Learn the “Thriller” dance before Halloween.
  • Throw a penny in the mall wishing well every time you visit.
  • Perfect your favorite celebrity impression.

However you celebrate the New Year, stay healthy, be safe and don’t drink and drive.
